At the Bochum and Wolfsburg sites, engineers at Volkswagen Infotainment GmbH develop software and hardware components in the areas of networking and data exchange for the vehicle brands in the Volkswagen Group. As these technologies become increasingly important in the automotive world, the company, which has been based in Bochum since 2014, continues its rapid growth. We attract new talent every month and they need a place to work. As part of this growth, the company is moving to new headquarters in the MARK 51°7 innovation quarter in 2024. That this project is becoming reality is shown by the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone, which was celebrated on 3 March 2022. For the safety of all guests, the event took place under 3G conditions.

Bernhard Krauße, Managing Director of Volkswagen Infotainment, is very satisfied: "This new headquarters creates a common development space for all our employees, who were previously housed at three locations throughout the metropolitan area. It brings our Volkswagen infotainment community in Bochum together and will ensure that all employees can work together even more efficiently in the future. As such, this is a giant step in the next stage of Volkswagen Infotainment’s development."

Tobias Nadjib, also Managing Director of Volkswagen Infotainment, also sees great opportunities for the region in the new headquarters: "As part of the Volkswagen Group, we are aware of the historical significance of MARK 51°7. With our new modern company site, we are creating and expanding Volkswagen's technology and development capacities. We are also growing closer with Bochum and at the same time contributing to economic and structural change in the Ruhr region."

Bochum's mayor Thomas Eiskirch is pleased that Volkswagen Infotainment will continue to grow at the site: “Establishing Volkswagen Infotainment at MARK 51°7 marks another milestone in the development of our Innovation Quarter. Up to 1,200 people will then rethink the mobility of the future here at Volkswagen Infotainment. Laying the foundation stone today is part of an outstanding development that began years ago in Bochum. This is another important step toward the future for our city."

Economics and Innovation Minister Prof. Dr Andreas Pinkwart is also looking towards the future: "Innovation has a long tradition in North Rhine-Westphalia: We have always combined industry expertise with the latest technologies. That's why I'm very pleased that Volkswagen Infotainment is building its future on the Bochum technology campus MARK51°7 in the heart of the Ruhr region. The dynamic growth at the Bochum site is an important sign of the future viability of North Rhine-Westphalia as an innovation and automotive location.

The Ten Brinke Group is not only the contractor in this project but also the investor. Upon completion of the project, Ten Brinke will thus act as landlord. The construction machines of the Dutch construction company have already been in use on the former Opel site since the beginning of the year.
